Season Start and Ends
Our season starts approximately the last week of September with practices and/or league games. The season wraps up in February with playoffs.
We do not have games or practices on days when school gyms are closed for school events, holidays, or election days.
In early September there will be posted try outs for our competitive A/B division teams for U13 and U15.
NEBA requires coaches for each team in our program. All coaches are required to provide a criminal record vulnerable sector check.
Coaches are required to attend basketball clinics and NEBA pays for this.
Volunteer expectations as a coach are one practice weekly, one game weekly, attending coaches meetings, picking up and dropping off team equipment.
Why do parents have to complete a volunteer commitment (bingo, casino, or other activity)?
In order to keep our fees low, each family is required to assist with a bingo, casino, or other events where the Executive requires assistance.
North East Basketball is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom are parents in the program or who have had children in the program.
Numerous people are required to be able to provide an affordable sport option for children. This program can only be run with the volunteer effort of its members in coaching, assistant coaching, team manager, jersey parent, time keepers, and scorekeepers. Head Coaching fullfills the parental volunteer commitment for a family.
Can I get a refund if my child changes his mind or is injured ?
The NEBA Refund Policy:
There will be an automatic fee of $30.00 applied against the registration fee paid.
Refunds will only be processed until the first week of the regular season after which no refunds will be made.
The only exception will be Juvenile players making senior teams in high school (requests must be made before December 31 of the current season.
No refunds will be provided without the return of the NEBA uniform.
Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Executive Director.
Why does NEBA have Jersey Parents and not lend every player a jersey each season?
Our jerseys are expensive. By having a Jersey Parent we have reduced the loss of jerseys, and maintained cleaner jerseys. We now do not require a jersey deposit.
Does my child have to try out for a team?
All children are eligible to play in the Community program, regardless of ability or experience, and will be placed on a team as space allows.
There are tryouts for the competitive divisions (A Division and B Division) for U13 Girls, U13 Boys, U15 Girls and U15 Boys (depending on number of applicants). Players may wish to try out for one of these teams. Tryout dates to be determined (usually late August).
Can I ask for a specific coach for my child, or for my child to play with a friend ?
We do not accept coach requests at this time.
Player requests can be considered as follows:
-Child A played for NEBA in the past and has brought a friend Child B, and wish to be placed on the same team.
-Child A wishes to play with Child B for transportation issues.
-The players must request each other in order for the request to be considered.
-Player are not allowed to play down a division to accomodate a player request. Players may move up a division, provided it does not affect the ability of NEBA to register a team in their age division, and there is space in the higher division.
-Each request is looked at on an individual bases and may not be accommodated.
-Coaches cannot request players other than their own child, or an above request to accomodate friends.
My child has another activity and cannot practice on a specific night
We will do our best to place your child on a team where practices will no conflict with alternate activities, if you indicate the conflict during the registration process. Be aware that this is dependant on coaches schedules and gym practice times, and that not all requests can be accomodated. Should we not be able to accomodate a practice night, we will refund the family.
Practices can be held Monday-Friday.
