Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Season Start and Ends

Our season starts approximately the last week of September with practices or league games and runs thru to beginning of march with playoffs. We do not have games or practices on days when school gyms maybe closed for school events, holidays, or election days in most schools. Halloween may be an omit date as well.

In early September there will be posted try out dates for our A and B division teams in Bantam and midget.

NEBA requires coaches for each team in our program. All coaches are required to provide a criminal record vulnerable sector check.
Coaches are required to attend basketball clinics and NEBA pays for this.
Volunteer expectations as a coach are a practice and game each week.
Attendance at coaches meetings, picking up and dropping off team equipment as required.

Parental Committment Why do Parents have to work bingo, or other activities

North East Basketball is run by a dedicated group of volunteers many who are parents in the program or who have had children in the program.
As they are only 8 people strong we need numerous other people to assist to be able to provide an affordable sport option for children. This is done with volunteer coaches, assistant coaches, managers, uniform parents, and all parents assisting with bingo, casino and other fundraising events, or events which require additional assistance. We ask for one volunteer for EACH FAMILY. Coaches do not volunteer other than as the coach of the team.

Can I get a refund if my child changes his mind or is injured ?

The NEBA Refund Policy:
There will be an automatic fee of $30.00 applied against the registration fee paid.
Refunds will only be processed until the second week of the regular season after which no refunds will be made.
The only exception will be Juvenile players making senior teams in high school (requests must be made before December 31 of the current season.
No refunds will be provided without the return of the NEBA uniform.
Requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Executive Director.

Why does NEBA have Jersey Parents and not lend every player a jersey each season?

Our jerseys are expensive and when we opted to have one parent on each team volunteer to be the jersey parent, it alleviated a lot of loss of jerseys, it keep our jerseys cleaner, Coaches did not have to keep reminding players to return the jersey at the end of the season. We did not require a jersey deposit.

Does my son have to try out for a team?

We do have try outs for the competitive divisions for 2017-18 this will be one or two teams, in the Bantam, A, B, and Midget A, B divisions, if players wish to try out for one of these teams they may, but all players regardless of ability or experience will be placed on a NEBA team for the season.

Can I ask for a specific coach for my child, or for my child to play with a friend ?

We do not accept coach requests at present, but would accept a request of a player to play with another child, for one of the following reasons,
Child A played for NEBA in the past and has brought a friend Child B. They wish to be placed on the same team.
Child A wishes to play with Child B for transportation issues, this would be accommodated if possible.
All player requests require both players to make the same request to be honoured if the executive is able to honour the request.
Child A age puts him in a lower division than Child B, Child A could be moved up to play with Child B provided that NEBA does not require Child A in his or her division to ensure that we can register a team in that age division, and if the division higher needs additional players.
Player are not allowed to play down a division they must play in their age division.
Each request is looked at on an individual bases and may not be accommodated.
Coaches cannot request players other than their own child, or an above request to accomodate friends.

My child has another activity and cannot practice on a specific night

If when you register your child you make it known that they have an activity on another night we will do our best to place them to practice on a team who practices on a night they are available. Should we not be able to accomodate a practice night we will refund the family.

You cannot expect NEBA to accomodate only one available night for your child to practice we may not have coaches available for the one night your child is available nor a gymasium to practice in.
