Volunteer support for NEBA and individual teams is critical to delivering quality and accessible programs.
For NEBA, a volunteer-based organization, parents support for bingos and other fundraising activities helps keep registration fees affordable and pay other program costs such as equipment, referee and facility fees. Approximately 40% of NEBA programming is paid for through volunteer fundraising. NEBA requires one volunteer commitment per family, and it is imperative that these commitments be fulfilled so that programs can be maintained and expanded.
For teams, parents are needed as timekeepers, scorekeepers, and referee liaisons for games, and possibly other activities throughout the season. These volunteer activities are in addition to the one commitment per family that NEBA requires.
Starting for the 2024-25 season, EYBA will require each team to designate a referee liaison for each game. Before each game, coaches must identify one parent to serve as the referee liaison. The liaison will be identified by wearing a specific lanyard and ensure that team supporters refrain from inappropriate or abusive behaviour towards officials, coaches, players, parents, or others. More information about this role can be found in section 5(b) of the EYBA Rule Book for the upcoming season.
